Improving Quality Scoring – Digital Traceability
Still using paper for work instructions & data capture? Is your data flattened in binders?

Electronic process & quality sheets deliver significant benefits over paper, Elevating Your Quality Scores
Whilst both international standards, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 27001 focus on different aspects of organisational management, ISO 27001 does not specifically focus on traceability, but ISO 9001:2015 does.
ISO 27001 does include several key aspects that relate to traceability in the context of information security, however a more specific standard ISO 9001:2015 contains a number of key points within the ISO standard where moving to a ‘digital thread of quality’ and ‘digital traceability’ enhances your companies quality scoring.
One of our customers said the following – “Auditors have been incredibly impressed by our detailed procedures and extensive version controls, right down to the ‘Bill of Material’. In fact, because our high audit scores are inserted into vendors’ databases, this has meant we have been identified for other contracts and have the potential to win new business.”
Enhancing your quality scores
Electronic version & revisioning control provides a digital record from inception through the lifecycle of a process through to archiving and ensures a permanent record is always available to audit. This is essential for any modern manufacturer to proviing robust evidence as to your systems and processes comply with stringent standards. Providing access to data and reports for auditors with electronic records demonstrates that your company is serious about compliance and removes the frustrations and time consuming methods associated with paper.
Quality data capture – What, when, where.
Product quality and specification data adherence are critical to ensuring your manufacturing processes for your products meet the anticipated requirements for your customers and your companies wider market reputation. Additionally ensuring the prevention of issues are eradicated from continuing down the production line, creating re-work, scrap or even worse product recalls.
Quality ‘In-built’ also means quality is embedded in your build processes, not on a piece of paper, in a separate system or home grown database, inextricably linked to the process itself. When quality is part of your electronic work instruction you can enforce responses such a simple confirmation, set upper & lower limits and present questions based on the outcome of a previous response.
Quality ‘In-built’ in the process validates and captures results and prevents work from continuing where the results fail to meet the anticipated criteria. This approach also ensures any issues found or raised can be triaged, tracked through the use of dispositions with costs and other implications can be assessed and managed.
Using simple confirmations shop floor operators are validating their accountability for the work to progress or a cross buddy check, creates a record that a suitably qualified person has certified a task has been completed correctly.
The use of upper and lower limits ensures the process is meeting the specification and prevents re-work.
Robust Digital Traceability
Using software rather than paper or disparate databases your processes automatically generate a digital birth certificate of everyting that has happened throughout the lifecycle of manufacturing a product. Every step of who, when, where and what is recorded including the stuff that happens behind the curtain, something we call the ‘Hidden Factory’ where re-work and other activities take place off the line. The concept of a product build history is not a new one, but when the process is digital, the records created are accurate, searchable and actionable. These electronic records serve many purposes not least for quality but also for customer confidence and evidence but also provide a safety net for any future quality issues.
Intelligent reporting that saves time and demonstrates compliance
The ability to access data quickly and easily makes the job of your auditors life a great easier than paper based record keeping. Often we see paper based quality sheets being completed by hand and then scanned which in-turn removes all the data intelligence as the data is converted to a flat PDF or image removing any chance to interrogate and navigate the data, let alone create reports.
ProcessIQ provides out of the box standard reports for quality data of the who, when, where, what and production performance data. In addition the OOTB reporting has the ability to provide a product build history report where you can see everything that has happened to a serialised unit or batch, essentially a birth certificate for each unit produced.
If your organisation has other reporting tooling ProcessIQ has an API that enables data to be staged and utilised in Microsoft PowerBI and other widely used reporting tools. The benefit of using more advanced reporting tools brings other opportunities for data discovery applying ‘Where used’ logic and graphical representation of data such as trends on limits across a number of serialised units built.
Summary
If you are looking to improve quality scores to win more business using electronic work instructions with quality data embedded in the build process would be a good place to target. Ridding your shop floor of paper and going digital delivers greater efficiency in your operations, creates intelligent electronic record keeping and will ultimately benefit the bottom line.
Why Production Workflow Software Matters
Eliminates Manual Errors & Inefficiencies
Traditional, paper-based workflows are prone to human error and inefficiencies. Automating your production workflows ensures greater accuracy, consistency, and real-time tracking, reducing costly mistakes and rework.
Boosts Productivity & Reduces Downtime
By optimizing task assignments, resource allocation, and process tracking, workflow automation minimizes delays and maximizes production uptime, keeping your operations running smoothly.
Enhances Collaboration & Visibility
A centralized system allows teams to access real-time data, track progress, and communicate seamlessly across departments, improving coordination and reducing miscommunication.
Ensures Compliance & Quality Control
With built-in quality assurance checks, document control, and regulatory compliance features, production workflow software helps maintain industry standards and ensures consistent product quality.
Data-Driven Decision Making
Leverage real-time analytics and performance insights to identify bottlenecks, optimize production efficiency, and make informed strategic decisions.
Scales with Your Business
Whether you’re managing high-mix, low-volume production or large-scale manufacturing, workflow automation adapts to your growing business needs, ensuring long-term efficiency and competitiveness.
